The Season of Newness
Spring here on Bonnytoun is always a time of birth, newness and change. Lambs arrive, buds begin, the land touched by warm sun – a welcome break from the Scottish winter.
In fact, our lambs have already begun to arrive—beautiful, tiny creatures with fleece still damp from birth, wide-eyed and curious in the spring air. It’s impossible not to feel hopeful, watching them wobble across the fields for the first time. And as a brand so married to the land, it feels only natural that Spring brings with it something new for us too.
We like to time our collections with the changing of the season—a rebirth, a reimagining, the possibility of something freshly coined and brought into the world.
So with that, I’m thrilled to introduce a few new arrivals to Future Vintage.
First, our new collection: Taking Shape.
This is the product of months of quiet development inside the Woolery. A considered evolution of the Shepherd’s Wardrobe, Taking Shape explores new silhouettes—softer structures, unexpected proportions, and a few playful nods to workwear. Still made with undyed Shetland wool from our own flock. Still framed and finished by hand. But with just a little more edge.
You’ll find a new short DEE Jacket, a fresh SPEY Vest, and a handful of special shapes soon to follow.
As ever, the collection is inextricably linked to the land. It’s made from Vintage 24/25—our newest production of yarn. This year, we’ve kept the wool unblended, letting the natural fleece colours stand proud. Four shades: Shetland black, moorit, natural white, and katmoget grey. Each piece dyed by nothing but the sheep.
And while we’re speaking of fresh ideas... we’ve also taken our first proper steps into homeware.
Our Cocoon Puzzle collaboration with Melina Carranza of Oficio Studio was part of the EU-funded WORTH Partnership Project—a cross-border design project that brought together my waste Shetland wool and Melina’s leather offcuts in Madrid. What began as a standalone project is now here to stay. We’ve created sculptural bolsters, seat pads, and pillows—interiors with texture and weight, made entirely from what would have otherwise been discarded. They're already drawing curiosity at Milan Design Week, and they’ll be available to order soon.
Closer to home, we’re also proud to launch our own collection of Shetland wool blankets and cushions, made from the same Vintage 24/25 yarns we use for knitwear. Thoughtful design, designed for warmth—made here on the farm, just like everything else.
Finally, I’m proud to share that Future Vintage has been featured in Selvedge Magazine this month. It’s a real privilege to be included among makers whose work I’ve admired for so long, and to have our story told with such care and understanding.
So, here’s to Spring. To newness, to trying, to tinkering. To lambs in the field and yarn on the frame. To keeping things small, but always moving forward.
